THE EVOLUTION OF EDUCATION: WHY DIGITAL CREDENTIALING IS THE FUTURE FOR JOB SEEKERS
REIMAGINE NEWSLETTER: ISSUE 13
Established in 1988, Ajman University was the first private university in the GCC.
AU is characterized by high standards of excellence in teaching in a cross-cultural environment, by generating impactful and relevant scholarship, by strong respect and appreciation for diversity, and by a robust culture of integrity and innovation. Our rich mix of international faculty and students, who hail from 35 and 72 diverse nationalities, respectively, are the catalysts and cornerstones of AU’s “glo-cal” intellectual environment.
Our network of 33,000 alumni spans six continents.
At AU, academic innovation fosters a pioneering sense of social responsibility. Lessons from the classroom are put to work in the community at large. For example, students from our dentistry program fly to Nepal several times a year to provide free dental care to underserved populations in Kathmandu. They also offer complimentary dental services, under the supervision of faculty, through local clinics in Ajman and the surrounding Emirates.
With the impending addition of an AU mobile dental unit, their services will soon be available to our UAE neighbors who lack transportation.
Likewise, each student-led project currently under incubation at the AU Innovation Center focuses on issues vital to quality of life. Inspired to help millions of people around the world who have suffered limb loss, three AU biomedical-engineering students are developing an affordable, state-of-the-art, and customizable bionic arm.
The prototype uses electroencephalography (EEG) waves to deliver instructions from the human brain to a 3D-printed limb.
Their Smart Arm grabbed top honors in Senior Design at the 2017 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) UAE Student Day competition.
Similarly, another dynamic student project, “Smart Guidance System for the Visually Impaired,” designed to help visually impaired people avoid obstacles, earned first prize in the Artificial Intelligence Robots for Good competition and received 1,000,000 AED in prize money. AU students are the living embodiment of our “make it happen” motto.
By sponsoring the Reimagine Education Awards & Conference, AU seeks to explore and encourage innovative ways of transforming the classroom experience into community expertise. Social responsibility and impact have been an essential part of our campus’ DNA since day one. Our vision is to be internationally recognized as one of the leading universities in the Arab world in terms of cutting-edge learning, impactful research and responsible outreach, and community engagement.
