HOW THE LARGEST INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ALUMNI GROUP IS FIGHTING FOR EMPLOYMENT OUTCOMES FOR THE WORLD’S INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS
Labster is humbled and beyond thrilled to be co-recipients of Reimagine Education’s 2016 Overall Award. The ethos of this award, given for “for innovative education pedagogies [that are] enhancing learning and employability”, precisely aligns with our company vision, to empower the next generation of scientists to change the world. For Labster to successfully enact this vision, we cannot simply be satisfied with helping students to learn; we must also be responsive to the fact that they need to apply their learnings.
Labster has long-respected the minds and talent behind the Reimagine Education team. In 2014, CEO Mads Tvillinggaard Bonde pitched in the Enterprise category and we were awarded a Bronze medal. We were hooked – we had found one of our key stakeholder communities, and we returned to the 2015 event, and again in 2016. Labster deeply admires the Reimagine team’s structure and pedigree – they make it seem easy to attract the most influential thought leaders to their event every year. We at Labster know how much work goes into that achievement, and their ability to deeply and consistently engage with these leaders is awe-inspiring. For Labster to return to Reimagine Education 2016 and win the Overall Prize for our LabBuilder project is a dream come true, and affirms that Labster is building tools that connect student learning to the resultant career.
What is LabBuilder?
LabBuilder, which was key ‘recipient’ of the award, is a tool that is usable, sharable, and accessible by everyone interested in scientific experimentation. Within LabBuilder, teachers, students and researchers can develop their own 3D virtual lab simulations to test scientific problems and hypotheses. LabBuilder’s end goal is to develop a user-friendly platform where everyone can easily and intuitively ‘drag-and-drop’ laboratory equipment and start experimenting online.
LabBuilder focuses on: engaging the user, being accessible to everyone, having intuitive controls, and encouraging collaboration and peer to peer learning. LabBuilder will be the first platform in the world where people can develop their own open, agile, and user-friendly 3D hightech laboratory simulators. And since LabBuilder will be cross-platform, you can bring it with you everywhere.
We also want LabBuilder to reduce the educational inequality gap by providing equal access for all learners. Even though the future has yet to take shape, we want to empower every science learner, educator, or enthusiast to play an active part of it.
Expect to receive a sneak peek around Summer 2017.
