REIMAGINE NEWSLETTER: ISSUE 22
ON BEING A MINORITY (IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE) IN VC AND TECH
Dear Reimaginers,
Since the last edition of Reimagine Education, it’s been clear that innovators across the world haven’t paused for a moment in their efforts to improve teaching and learning – and nor have we. Over the past six months, our Steering Committee has devoted all of our efforts to making the Awards – and November’s conference – the global hub for transformative educators. Here’s what we’ve done:
Reimagined the format:
We’re devoted to helping educators make the learning process new – and we believe strongly that attending Reimagine should also be a valuable learning experience for anyone involved. As a result, we want to make sure that our conference also offers interactive, innovative approaches, too. We have taken feedback from the Reimagine Education community on board, and we will be offering a more interactive, constructivist approach this year.
With this aim in mind, we’re delighted to announce that November’s conference will feature the Design Futures @ Reimagine Education workshop. Run by David Roselle – a 2018 Emerging Fellow for the Association of Professional Futurists – David will offer participants the opportunity to receive an introduction to the principles of design futurism, learn how to incorporate strategic foresight into their day-to-day thinking, and, as a result, tackle grey areas facing them in the workplace. The workshop is designed to give all attendees the tools to think systemically about the future, and to allow them to exchange reactivity for proactivity.
We will also be offering attendees from the educational technology sector the chance to meet Amazon Web Services, our Gold EdTech Sponsor, at an edtech happy hour the evening before the conference begins.
Attendance will be limited to those delegates whose application to this year’s Reimagine Education Awards were shortlisted, but will offer the chance to expand their edtech network, receive advice on scaling into new markets and institutions, and create a relationship with one of the world’s largest technology companies.
Reimagined the awards
The educational technology landscape is moving at breakneck speed: four years ago, the potential applicability of blockchain technology in educational settings was on the agenda of almost no one. As the global awards for educational innovation, we want to ensure that our awards reflect new fields, and those areas where the potential for innovation is greatest.
We also want to continue focusing on the ways in which new educational approaches can help nurture more employable, 21st-century-ready graduates: employability remains a central element of the Reimagine mission.
As a result, we’re offering a number of new awards this year:
(1) Best Employer for Nurturing 21st-Century Skills;
(2) Best Innovation in Blockchain Technology;
(3) Best Innovation in Cloud Studies;
(4) Best University-Employer Partnership.

Reimagined the location and time
We’ve enjoyed welcoming the Reimagine community to Philly each year, and it proved to be a great place to see us grow. Now, however, the time is right to think bigger and better. After much consultation, we’re delighted and excited to announce that this year’s conference will be held in San Francisco!
We’re confident that this move will offer Reimagine the scope to engage with both California’s top universities, and with the thriving edtech ecosystem in and around Silicon Valley. We also hope the move will prove welcome to the hundreds of Reimaginers in the Asia-Pacific region, who have lent considerable support to our initiative over the years.
This year’s conference will be one week earlier in the calendar: November 29th-30th – and booking is now open at Early Bird rates. Don’t miss out!
Reimagined the logo
Alongside everything else, we’ve also reimagined our brand, with a new official logo. This reflects our newest partnership: that with the Alfred West Jr. Learning Lab, an immersive learning group at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School dedicated to develop highly cutting-edge, highly effective digital learning tools. Those wishing to share news of this year’s event, or those using the Reimagine Education logo in official communications, are advised to use this newest version.
