We’re also delighted to announce two more speakers for the event: Kathy Pugh, Vice-President of Education Services at edX, and Elmarié Potgieter, Founder & Managing Director of RITE International. Kathy will be leading our conversation on the future of online learning – with a particular focus on MOOCs, and what is being done to expand them to underserved educational communities – alongside Simon Nelson of FutureLearn and Justin Reich of MIT.
Ms. Potgieter has extensive international experience in leading the development, implementation and impact assessment of large-scale education transformation programmes. These capacity building programmes focus on educational leadership and pedagogical coaching, as well as curriculum framework development. At Reimagine 2019, she’ll be speaking alongside Harvard’s Julie Reuben and Louise Dube, Executive Director of iCivics, about the relationship between educational theory, educational praxis, and the inculcation of democratic values.
For this issue, she’s opted to focus on the question of professional development in the education sector. Deriving insights from her experience designing and delivering a large-scale leadership capacity building project in Tanzania, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon and Indonesia, she outlines some key insights for those wishing to empower educators to provide technology-enhanced teaching.
We’re also very proud to introduce the newest member of the global Reimagine team: Saudi Arabia’s Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University, who, since their inception in 2006, have aimed to foster high-quality teaching and learning at international standards, thus driving the development of the Saudi workforce. Our partnership with The EdTech Podcast – and their founder, Sophie Bailey – continues, too. In this penultimate episode of the EdTech Podcast’s Education 4.0 series with their friends at Jisc, she continues to explore the changing world of education in the fourth industrial era. This week she asks “who can help embed new technologies and working practices?” as she examines the pioneers and settlers needed to create change in education.
