AUGMENTING EDUCATION: A VIRTUAL FUTURE?
BRINGING LEARNING ALIVE IN THE CLASSROOM
Amazon Web Services (AWS), pre-eminent provider of cloud computing services, have today announced their sponsorship of the world’s largest awards for innovative educational technology. The Wharton-QS Reimagine Education Awards – the “Oscars” of Education – identify edtech solutions that have achieved outstanding degrees of efficacy, ingenuity, and scalability.
The Awards program, which runs annually and offers awards in 17 different categories, received over 1,100 applications this year. Submissions are judged by a panel of over 160 educational experts, and applicants include luminaries of the educational world: Duolingo, edX, IBM, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Imperial College London.
AWS will sponsor the Overall EdTech Award and the ICT Tools for Support & Services Award. The commitment will further emphasize their intention to increase their footprint in the education sector, which already sees them offer cloud computing services to over 7,000 education providers.
The competition’s leading applications will also have the opportunity to meet AWS EdStart, the AWS edtech startup accelerator, at the 2018 Reimagine Education Conference (San Francisco, 29th-30th November). The accelerator is designed to help entrepreneurs build the next generation of online learning, analytics, and campus management solutions on the AWS Cloud; and to enable edtech startups to scale at speed.
“For five years, the Reimagine Education Awards have offered a gold standard for educational innovation”
said Nunzio Quacquarelli, CEO of QS Quacquarelli Symonds and co-founder of the Reimagine Education Awards.
“Identifying edtech solutions with the capacity to scale is at the heart of that gold standard, and it’s clear that AWS are also committed to bringing world-class edtech to ever-greater numbers of learners across the globe. Our partnership makes manifest Reimagine Education’s collaborative spirit, and acknowledges our belief that intersectoral co-operation is necessary to foster transformative learning experiences.”
Edtech startups can meet the AWS team – and investors and educational consultants – at the Reimagine Education Conference. Confirmed speakers at the event include Google’s Educational Evangelist Jaime Casap, Microsoft’s Vice President for Worldwide Education, Anthony Salcito, and Harvard’s Director for Educational Research and Evaluation, Jenny Bergeron.
The Reimagine Education Awards are co-organized by QS Quacquarelli Symonds, compilers of the market-leading QS World University Rankings, and the Wharton School’s Alfred J.West Jr. Learning Lab.
