TEACHING AND LEARNING IN THE INTERNET OF THINGS – A PRIMER FOR EDUCATORS
REIMAGINE NEWSLETTER: ISSUE 24
Founded in 1988 as the first private institution of higher education in the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf region, Ajman University (AU) is now being recognized as an emerging leader on the global academic map.
The recently released 2019 QS World University Rankings lists AU among the top 1000 universities worldwide. And, the latest “Top 50 Under 50” QS Rankings names AU as one of the top 150 young universities in the world. Even our distinct location in the Dubai/Sharjah/Ajman corridor is ranked by QS as the 61st best student destination on the planet. In June, AU became one of only 11 non-American universities to be certified by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) in the United States.
Whether researching on campus or volunteering in the field, our students and faculty – from 35 and 72 countries, respectively – demonstrate great passion for innovation and deep compassion for society. Each of AU’s 9 colleges, including the newly launched College of Medicine, is focused on putting imaginations into action for the greater good.
The College of Dentistry proudly assists more than 500 people each day in a free dental clinic on campus. Last semester, a team of faculty, student and alumni joined forces to help improve the oral health and hygiene of vulnerable populations in Southeast Asia and East Africa. With the recent addition of an AU mobile dental unit, they will soon hit the road to serve locals who lack transportation.
Italian lecturers Emanuela Corti and Ivan Parati in the College of Engineering are the creators of an award-winning line of smart garments. Known as “Sensewear,” their dynamic collection can be worn by anyone but is especially relevant for those with sensory processing disorders like autism and Asperger syndrome.
AU’s Innovation Center is the epicenter of campus and community partnerships. One of most promising current incubated start-ups is the “Smart Arm,” created by three bio-engineering students to provide an affordable and intelligent solution for people who have lost hands to war or disease.
To celebrate 30 years of social and scientific successes – and in honor of more than 36,000 alumni who hail from 101 nations across the globe – AU is delighted to serve as a Gold Sponsor of the 2018 Reimagine Education Awards and Conference in San Francisco. AU believes that the future of learning belongs to those who are willing to reimagine their dreams. We encourage all the participants to make it happen!
